Values

The Guiding Principles

Queensland Coastal Conference is premised on certain values which have helped to sustain it throughout the years. The fundamental value is our belief that a sustainable and healthy coastal environment is essential for Queenslanders. It will not only improve the quality of their lives but also gives them more options and access to enjoy the natural bounties that can only be found in coastal communities. Keeping the coastal environment in pristine shape does not only benefit the people living in the coastal communities but every Queenslanders.

Furthermore, the Queensland Coastal Society believes in the importance of knowledge and understanding. It is our firm conviction that it is only a well informed and independent voice that can give the right advice and guidance on coastal matters to coastal managers and governments. The conference, therefore, exists as an avenue to produce these kinds of individuals and organisations who fully understand coastal matters and they are objective enough to only offer solutions that will definitely benefit coastal communities and the environment. This is necessary for an age where political affiliations and interests sometimes guide decision making and policies of the government. While this might be tolerable and even have positive impacts in other areas, it is different when it comes to coastal matters.

Environmental issues transcend any political, economic, or social affiliations or interests because the consequences of poor decisions when it comes to environmental issues can be very devastating. That is why such decisions must be based solely on objective and informed guidance. With the constant developments in the approach to dealing with environmental issues and solving problems associated with coastal environments, the conference provides experts and professionals with the opportunity to stay up to date and provide the best guidance and solutions to government, managers, and policymakers when it comes to coastal matters.  This ensures that every decision taken is the right one, and we all can avoid the sometimes irremediable results of bad decisions and policies when it comes to environmental issues.

Queensland Coastal Conference also partners with and inputs from businesses, communities, government, educational institutions, individuals, and organisations who have interests in developing a healthy and vibrant coastal environment where resources are used in a sustainable manner. The mission of fostering better coastal environments is a job for everyone, which is why we encourage partnerships with all stakeholders who are directly or indirectly affected.

We are especially keen to partner with coastal communities who are directly affected by any coastal issue and are, therefore, in the best position to proffer solutions that will work best in each situation. Since the implementation of any solution will require community members to succeed, we value our collaboration with them and encourage them to be more interested in the future of their communities.
